(17) Good Samaritan Laws

Legislation Protecting Donors of Food

Most Canadian provinces have enacted legislation that protects people who donate and distribute food in good faith from liability. In some cases, these laws are specific to food donation, and in others they are part of a Good Samaritan Act.

Good Samaritan Doctrine: a legal principle that prevents a rescuer who has voluntarily helped a victim in distress from being successfully sued for 'wrongdoing.' Its purpose is to keep people from being so reluctant to help a stranger in need for fear of legal repercussions that they do not offer aid.

The following links will take you to relevant provincial laws or rules - not all of which are called "Good Samaritan Laws."
